"Hey there! My name is North Cady. I'm a Pacific Northwest artist on a mission to bring the passion and adventure of the mountains into your home. I do this through the colors of my imagination and the flourish of my paint brush.
Like many people, I feel a deep sense of connection when I hike. My art is inspired by the bright and windy world of the summit, as well as the warm and quiet rooms of 12 Step meetings. I've found healing in the taste of summer showers as well as shared tears.
Do you hike for freedom, like me? For escape? For healing? For challenge? Does climbing drain the anxiety from your limbs? Does summiting drain the fear from your chest? If so, you're in the right place. This is for those of us who never want to come down from the mountain top. Those who know, "The mountains are calling and I must go" (John Muir). What a glorious call this is, an alternative to the addictions that likewise, call to us. Like sirens, "they say they'll ease my pain, then break me on the stones" (Josh Garrels).
Are you a recovering addict, like me? If youβve read this far, you've probably noticed that you too are in the right place. My art and my hiking are both my attempts to increase my conscious contact with God.
Being an artist and a contemplative hiker has been a source of life for me and an important part of my recoveryβboth from addiction and from trauma. I hope that my art can be a source of life for you too! It is on the mountaintop of wholeness, the trail of healing, and the peaks of literal mountain ranges that we can see the horizon, sense the vastness of God, and find peace in being so small. The mountains make it easier to surrender.
So think of these images as an echo of that freedom and adventure, the warmth of sunlight, the aroma of evergreens that stays with you, even after you've left the summit behind!"
